How to fix the Netgear router not connecting to the internet?

When you set up your Netgear router, it is not connecting to the internet. There might be many reasons for not connecting to the internet. If you have a DSL gateway which is a combination of router and modem, then you cannot connect with the internet, you are using some other internet programs etc. to troubleshoot the problem of Netgear router not connecting to the internet you should found whether your router is actually disconnected to the internet or not. Disconnect the power of the router:

The first and the basic step is to power cycle your Netgear wife router. Disconnect all the connected devices and unplug your router from the socket. Wait for few minutes and plug your router again into the socket. Connect your wife to all the devices of the internet. 

Check all the cable connections:

The next step is to check all the cable connections. Make sure that the internet cable is appropriately connected with the router, and if the cable is damaged, then replace it with the new one. There should not be any loose cable connections, and all the wires are properly placed.

Update your router:

Make sure that your router has an updated version to connect with the internet. If your router is not updated, update it by locating it on the Netgear nighthawk router login page. After the update, connect your internet to the router and all the connections and start working again.

Check the power supply:

You make sure that your router is getting the correct supply of electricity from the socket. The router must receive fluctuating free power supply. Once you're plugged into the router, it will show a green light that indicates that the router is getting the correct electricity supply. 

Assign a static IP to your PC:

If everything seems to be perfect and your Netgear router is appropriately set up the follow the below options:

  • Open the nighthawk router login page, enter your user id and password, and click on the login button.
  • Now configure your router username and password.
  • If there is a static IP address, then configure the router with its IP address, DNS address, and default gateway address. 
  • If you see a dynamic IP address, then click on the smart wizard test button to check whether your router is receiving the internet or not. 
  • You can also use the Netgear nighthawk app to test internet access.

Reset your Netgear router:

If the above steps did not solve your problem, you could go for the last step by resetting the Netgear settings. 

  • You need to open the Netgear router settings on your device and go to the reset option.
  • Click on the reset button and wait for few minutes. All your factory default settings will get restored on the device. 
  • Now connect all your devices and internet to the router again. You can see that your router starts working again.
